Sacred Rocks Reserve is a great place to spend time at, we were there July 8th for the night on our way to Tucson Arizona. The park was very nice, clean restrooms, great internet access and a very friendly group of people. The management helped us get setup as we pulled in late and were exhausted after a day of moving. The cool night air along with the clear star studded night made it a night to remember. We slept with the windows open and the fresh mountain air kept us cool all night! The next day the staff helped us prep the RV and wished us luck on our trip to Texas. We would recommend this RV park to anyone who wants to get away from the regular city type RV places, lots of things to do and you get the chance to get back to nature there. The owner is a real joy to be around, he tells stories about anything and is a really likable person. We wish them the best in this RV park.

30’ Jayco 5th Wheel

Furofuki Daikon

Ingredients

1 daikon or carrot

greens

sea salt (pinch)

miso (light or dark)

kombu or shitake mushroom

Directions

Place a small amount of water in the bottom of a medium sized pot (enough to just cover the bottom). Break thumb nail sizes of kombu or shitake mushrooms and place into the bottom of the pot. Turn the flame to medium and allow the water to gently boil. Boil for several minute until you can smell the flavor in the steam.

Cut the daikon into 2 cm wedges and place them into the boiling water. Sprinkle in sea salt to taste. Let cook about 10 minutes.

Dissolve miso in a bold with water. Pour the miso over the cooked daikon and continue cooking the mixture covered. Continue stirring and cooking until all the water has boiled off and the daikon is soft. This takes about 30 minutes.

Sunday 7am before the world stirred, I stepped out with my camera. It was quiet, like the quiet when you ask yourself “are my ears working?” The snowfall stopped. Guests were still sleeping. Breathtaking perambulation about the Park.

Photography & Writing Classes This Saturday!

Get hands-on professional instruction from award-winning travel photographer David Muenker this Saturday from 9am to 1pm. While you explore the desert beauty of the reserve, you’ll learn and hone techniques to create outstanding scenic images. David will also provide feedback on your images.

In the afternoon, tap into your creativity in the writing workshop led by award-winning travel writer Rose Muenker from 1 to 4pm. Get inspired while walking the labyrinth, exploring nature trails or sitting by the cozy fire in the club house. Bring your favorite pend and notebook.

To reserve your spot, please call the Sacred Rocks Reserve office (1-619-766-4480) by noon Friday, 2/25. The fee for each class is $30, which includes the day pass to the park. Please arrive 15 minutes early and bring any snacks you may want to enjoy.

Beyond Bus Fare

Coming out of Starbucks this week, a homeless woman approached me asking for spare change for bus fare. I gave her some, then watched as she walked to a bus stop and sat down on the bench, shivering in the cold. She had a red jacket, but her hands were bare despite chilly winter temperatures. It was starting to rain.

I walked up and asked the woman if she had any gloves. She shook her head: no.

So I went to my trunk and pulled out a pair of red angora gloves that a friend had given me. His wife had died, he was moving away, and he’d given me a few items in hopes I’d find someone who needed them.

You should’ve seen the broad, gap-toothed smile on the homeless woman’s face when I gave her those beautiful gloves! She thanked me, and looked as though she couldn’t believe someone would do something so nice, just because it was the right thing to do.

I can’t imagine anyone who needed them more. It sure felt good to help someone who needed it, and who appreciated it so much.

Kind Motorist Even When its not Convenient

Our Sacred Rocker, Jessica wrote in this about her husband:

My husband was running late for work and still had to take our daughters to school, once he did he headed to work. On his last turn to work before he got to the parking lot entrance there was an older man pushing his car out of the road….he had ran out of gas on his way to the gas station, my husband got down the car and helped him push the car to the side of the road after they were done my husband offered him a ride to the gas station but he didn’t have anything to bring gas back to the car…. so instead he took the man to his house, waited for him to get an empty container to buy gasoline then drove him to the gas station and back to his car. The man was really appreciative of what my husband had done and offer him money that my husband refuse to take. Gerardo my wonderful husband was 35min. late to work and happy that he had done something good for someone that he doesn’t even know!!!

Our first “Random Act of Kindness”

One of our Sacred Rockers sent in their first random act for our contest. A female college student was standing in a long line waiting to pay for a day parking pass at her school. The meter only took exact change and the gentleman behind her was asking everyone if they had change for his $5. No one had change including herself. She decided to perform her “random act of kindness” and paid for his ticket….Go Sacred Rockers!

Pay it Forward and Win!

February 14 – 20 is our special kind of Valentine contest.

Here is how the contest works: Each day from February 14-20, we invite you to perform a “random act of kindness”, and email the details in to sacredrocks@gmail.com . A random act of kindness can be anything nice for others that is out of your normal behavior and unexpected by the receiver. A simple, kind gesture can change someone’s day and inspire them to do something kind for another. These simple acts can spread like wildfire.

For ideas, try thinking of a bad day you had, and how it could have been better. For example, remember the last parking ticket you received? Wouldn’t it have been nice if someone had noticed your meter was about to expire and put in just a few coins from the bottom of their bag? The idea is to make kindness contagious. The good you do will spread and make those that receive want to do likewise.

Everyone who enters receives a free day pass to enjoy the delights of Sacred Rocks Reserve. The grand prize, two fabulous and fun-filled starry nights at Sacred Rocks Reserve (email sacredrocks@gmail.com for details), will be awarded to the most creative, unexpected, unusually kind act.

Here are some examples of random acts of kindness:

· Buy a few lottery tickets and pass them out to people you don’t know

· Give a stranger a complement that is genuine (or a complement you have been thinking to give to someone you know but just never vocalized)

· Pick up trash you notice on the side of the road

· Give someone the parking spot that’s right up front even though you have been waiting five minutes for it.

· Pay for the coffee of the person standing behind you

Silk Scarf Painting Class This Saturday

Silk scarf painting process.

Learn how to paint silk scarfts this Saturday, Feb. 5th, with artist Ilene Van Gossen. You will heat-set colors in a simple four-step process that allows for playing with color and texture. The scarves are about 8″ x 54″ and made of 100% washable habotai silk. The class will be held from noon to 4 pm in the clubhouse of Sacred Rocks Reserve RV Park.

The fee of $55 includes one silk scarf, use of the silk fabric heat-set paints, and lunch. Registration is required by noon Friday, Feb. 4. To register and get more information, call the Sacred Rocks Reserve office, 619-766-4480.

P.S. Bring an apron to protect your clothes from the paints, a bucket or plastic bowl to use as a water container, and an iron if you have one to share.
